October 2, 2017. Clouds blanket the San Rafael Swell near Green River on a drizzly morning- the first day of our annual fall desert trip. Steady rain for much of the night forced us to rethink our plans, which had been to spend the next two days off-road in the San Rafael Desert- not the best idea with a bit more rain in the forecast, on roads described as "impassible when wet". Been there, done that- they mean it!
The new Bears Ears National Monument area had been next on the agenda anyway, so we headed south away from the storm, hoping to find dryer conditions.
