A return to Campbell Icefield Chalet for the week of February 16th to the 23rd, with many of the usual crew, and some new faces.
Heading out on the first morning, in the aftermath of overnight northerly winds that heralded the transition to colder weather.
The final pitch to the Dome, with the wind affect clearly evident.
While much of the higher alpine had been wind-hammered, good skiing was found throughout the week on lower, more sheltered terrain. Finding perfect snow and getting first tracks in the Bluewater Moraine zone was sweet!
The rest of the group joined us for lunch, and an afternoon of laps in the moraines.
The best sunset of the week, to cap off a very good day 1.
Mostly clear skies, but cold temperatures, for Day 2
Getting ready to leave for the low col, and check out the sunny slopes beyond.
Once through the col, we were greeted with views of the Freshfield group of peaks, and wind ravaged slopes on all aspects.
An exploratory descent into the Waitabit Valley revealed little in the way of good skiable snow. After a couple of crashes, and in the face of a cold wind flowing off the icefield- we wimped out and retreated back over the col.
Afternoon sun and -12 on the other side-balmy!
Good skiing was had in the moraines, and Murphy's.
Go left-no, the other left!
The photographer takes a tumble-while putting on the skins!
Back at the lodge- Jo and Irene were enjoying apres-ski tea in the warm sun.
Overcast skies with light snow and calm winds, for day 3.
A fine time was had, tracking up the slopes in the Camel Humps and the adjacent "Roller Coaster" fun zone.
One at a time on this steeper pitch.
The serene uptrack home after a fun powder day.
Clearing skies for morning 4, as we dropped down the Bluewater Creek drainage.
At the Alan Campbell drainage gravel flats- the promise of sun.
Were here! A meandering route took us up onto the Alan Campbell shoulder.
How big is that cornice?
The dangerous backside of Saturday Trees, above the gravel flats.
Telephoto view of our well skied moraine run, which Chris and Peter elected to ski again today. Spot them on the uptrack to Dome Bowl?
An incredible lunch spot!
Nice skiing off the ridge, and down into the trees.
Heading home across the flats below the forbidden zone.
With skins back on, we climbed a bit, and after a brief detour, found good glade skiing in the Alan Campbell trees....
The Fan had been tracked up by the previous week's group, but they had left a few lines untouched.....
